Ryan Clarke, CPA, CA, FEA
I built 4Roots Tax Advisory to support Canadian CPA firms that do not have in-house tax depth, or that need overflow capacity on complex files. My role is to deliver practical, client-ready tax guidance that integrates cleanly into your practice while your firm stays client-facing and in control.
To save you a trip to LinkedIn:
Over the last 10+ years, I’ve worked primarily in middle market public practice, with a final stint at a Big 4 firm.
Since 2018, I’ve been a facilitator for CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program, guiding tax professionals through multiple levels.
In addition to founding 4Roots Tax Advisory, I am also an Advisor to Blackwood Family Enterprise Services, a team dedicated to helping family enterprises achieve lasting harmony.
I’m a CPA (legacy CA, 2013) and a Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA).
If you’re after more detail, you can find me on LinkedIn here.
Now to the question I’m asked most: Why did you leave public accounting to start your own practice?
The short answer is simple. Canadian tax is becoming more complex, and many CPA firms are being asked to solve problems that increasingly require specialist depth. I started 4Roots so firms can access that expertise without adding headcount, and without pushing clients toward a large-firm experience when it is not needed.
The personal part is in the name. 4Roots is inspired by my four kids (the ones you see on this page). I want them to see that building something meaningful is worth the effort, even when the path is not perfectly predictable.
If you’re a CPA firm looking for a specialized tax partner, I’d be happy to connect.
